Visit To Weymouth Golf Club
on Thursday 17 October 2019
Note: This is a replacement for the A la Ronde event, cancelled due to lack of interest. There are not enough members signed up to warrant coach hire.
The plan is to arrive at the Weymouth Golf Club at 11:00 for coffee/tea with a view to a leisurely start and chat followed by a talk by Norman Grimshaw on the history and achievements of the club. This will be at approximately 11:30/11:45.
The cost will be £5 per head, cash in advance please, which will be collected at the October meeting or on the day.
Weymouth Golf Club was founded in 1909, this James Braid designed course epitomises his early philosophy around shot strategies – straight from their website!
Now, I’m not a golfer but I’m interested in the history of a club that has thrived for over 110 years in our town so I am sure that Norman will provide us with some interesting and revelling facts. A little like Camedown Golf Club which is the birthplace of the Rider Cup. I’m sure you all know that.
The golf club; clubhouse is at the end of Links Road in Weymouth, DT3 0PJ. There is parking right in front of the clubhouse and an over spill car park 75 metres from the clubhouse entrance. There is a little gradient from the bottom of the car park but not too onerous.
Coffee/tea and lunch will be in the Hardy View Restaurant up one flight of stairs from the main entrance. Lunch will be at approximately 12:30. Please select from the menu attached to the sign-up sheet. Lite bites including sandwiches start from £4.50, pie and a pint £10, ham, egg and chips, scampi and chips etc. £8.50 and so on.
As always, please ensure that you pay for your coffee/tea as you go and your lunch including any drinks at the till. A check off list will be there, so ensure your name’s are crossed through.
There are no particular hazards associated with this event.
