Visit to The Martyrs Museum, Tolpuddle
on Thursday 19 September 2019
At this time of year, the quickest way is to head down the A35 which is where your satnav will take you when you plug in DT2 7ES. This is roughly the Martyrs Inn. Or you could go via Warmwall Cross/Crossways on the B3390, a much more scenic route.
Our coffee, tea and lunch venue will be at the Martyrs Inn in the centre of the village of Tolpuddle. Please arrive at the Inn no later than 1100 o’clock for tea/coffee and please pay as you go. Parking is available at the Inn but there are only nine places, parking on the road outside is not too much of a problem. It is about 300 metres walk to the Martyrs museum from the Inn. There is a roadside pull in/layby dead opposite if you wish to drive and it will probably accommodate half a dozen cars.
Coffee/tea at the Martyrs Inn is approximately £2/£2.50 and lunch from the light bites averages £8.50. I will print off a menu for those who wish lunch but you can also visit the Martyrs Inn website
and view their menu. Pre ordered meals please on the sign-up sheet or let me know by email. Lunch will be at approximately 1:15. As always, please ensure when you pay for your meal and drinks that your name is crossed off of the till list
We will make our way to the museum for 11:45 so leaving the Inn at 11:30 after coffee/tea.
There are no pedestrian pathways on the museum side of the road so please be careful as you cross the road if driving to the museum and equally, as you exit. There is a slight incline up to the entrance aided by a hand rail. Walking from the Inn will take about 10 minutes.
The cost is donations only, which can be deposited in the museum donation box or given in at the adjacent shop, I would recommend £7 per head as per Shire Hall. There will be a talk lasting approximately one hour by Tom De-Wit.
We all know facts relating to the plight of the Tolpuddle Martyrs but this event dovetails nicely into our event to Shire Hall in April.
A very, very small exhibition but well worth a visit if you have not been before and I am sure there is a lot to be told by our speaker Tom on the day. If you just want to come along to the lunch and meet up, the Martyrs Inn food, we found is pretty good.
